CHICAGO — A vehicle drove into the entrance of a Chicago-area mall Friday afternoon and continued driving inside the mall, according to police.

A video posted to Twitter appears to show a black SUV driving around inside Woodfield Mall, located in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Illinois.

A person in the video can be heard saying, "What the ***. Oh my god." Others in the background yell "Stop! Stop driving!" The car tires screech as the car navigates the mall.

Schaumburg Police said the vehicle drove into the mall near the Sears and Rainforest Cafe. Police reported that the subject is in custody.

"At this time, no major injuries have been reported, only minor injuries," police said in a Tweet.

"At this time, there is no evidence of an active shooter situation. Police are on scene and the mall is in the process of being evacuated. Please avoid the area if possible. The investigation is ongoing. At this time, no injuries have been reported," the department said in a Facebook post.

Schaumburg police initially alerted to a mass casualty incident.

Police did not immediately respond to request for comment.

A spokesperson for the FBI said the agency is assisting with the investigation at the request of local law enforcement. There is no known threat to public safety at this time.

Initial posts on social media alleging an active shooter situation proved unfounded.
